Curriculum
At First Step our staff offers stimulating and developmentally appropriate activities that may include music and movement, outdoor play, sensory activities, arts and crafts, pre-reading, pre-math, motor skills, quiet story time, dramatic play and lots of laughter, hugs, love and positive guidance.
Lesson plans that include a letter, number, color and shape we also incorporate music, math, science, books and even Spanish. We focus on hands-on learning centers that encourage our children to use their creativity, such as social skills and oral language.
Below you will find a sampling of activities incorporated into the curriculum for our infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
- Infants:
- Fine Motor Skills: Playing with Blocks, Puzzles, Grasping Toys
- Sensory Skills: Textures, Cool/Warm Water, Bubbles, Ice, Soft/Rough
- Language: Songs, Story-Time, Numbers, Colors, Shapes, oral language
- Social/Emotional Development: "Patty-Cake", Puppet Shows, Instruments
- Toddlers:
- Using Glue, Painting, Free Art, Color Sorting
- Learning Colors, Shapes, ABCs, Days, Months, Opposites and oral language
- Singing, Story-Time, Poems, simple Spanish words, sign language
- Puzzles, Exploration
Pre-Schoolers:
- Social Skills Thru Oral Language- Motor Skills such as Cutting, Use Glue, Tracing, Painting and Cutting
- Learning to Recognize Letters of Name, Shapes, ABCs, Days, Months
- Learning Letter Sounds
- Singing and Story-Time
- Simple Spanish
